Author's Purpose

Yesterday we discussed author's purpose in class, and everyone had great ideas to share. Smith came up with the acronym "PIE" to remember the three main reasons authors write: to persuade, inform, and entertain. What is your favorite type of writing? What is your purpose when you write?

My favorite kind of writing is the kind that is so exiting that you keep having to turn the page. My purpose when I write is to entertian because I don't know anything about polotics, which is the best thing to inform about. I also am not very good at persuading because I ussually don't have enough support for my claim.

We talked a lot about Author's Purpose. He will try to entertain you. He or she wants the book to be exciting and full of action. Or a sad book. As long as the reader likes it. Sometime the author the author wants to persuade you to get an object, so they will tell you good things about it. Another thing they do is inform you about stuff.
